My favorite class I’ve taken at DU is Romantic Musicology by far.
Musicology is just a fancy name for music history, and this class focuses entirely on the Romantic period—my absolute favorite era in all of music! The richness, emotion, and drama of Romantic music deeply resonate with me. Getting to dive into it in such depth has been a dream.
Professor Frazier has been an incredible guide through it all. She’s dynamic, passionate, and engaging—her energy makes every class feel more like a lively conversation than a lecture. I genuinely look forward to every session because she always brings something fresh and interesting to the table. The smaller class size also makes a big difference-creating a comfortable environment where everyone has the opportunity to speak and contribute. It’s also made it easier to connect with both Professor Frazier and my classmates, leading to some great relationships.
What I love most is that the class allows for creativity within the academic setting. I’ve done about half of my projects with an artistic approach. Whether it’s composing, visual art, or creative writing inspired by the music we study— it’s always welcomed and encouraged. That kind of flexibility has made the learning process not only more enjoyable but more meaningful to me.
I’ve enjoyed many classes during my time at DU, but Romantic Musicology stands out as one of the most memorable. I connected with the material on a personal level and I’m confident you’ll find courses at DU that resonate with you in the same way.
