Insider tips to enhance your visit to the University of Denver
Visiting the University of Denver’s campus was one of the best parts of my college search. I remember stepping foot on campus for the first time, excited but also overwhelmed. So many buildings, people, and things to take in all at once! Looking back, I wish I’d known a few tricks to make the most of that day. Now that I’ve been here for a while, here are some things I think will make your visit even better.
1. Come With Questions Ready: When I first arrived, I had a ton of questions in my head, but once the tour started, I completely blanked! If you’re like me, take some time before you come to jot down questions. Trust me, it’s better to have them ready. Whether you’re wondering about what life in the residence halls is like, how easy it is to talk to professors, or where students hang out on the weekends, your tour guide is there to give you the inside scoop. Don’t hold back!
2. Go Off the Beaten Path: The campus tour will hit all the major spots, like the academic buildings and dorms, but after the tour ends, make time to explore. I wandered through the residence hall lobbies, checked out the library, and grabbed a latte at the coffee shop near the hospitality building. These little side trips gave me a better idea of what everyday life on campus would feel like. My favorite spot? Definitely the Renaissance Room in the Mary Reed Building- perfect for studying and catching up on class readings.
3. Chat with Current Students: If you can, strike up conversations with students you see walking around. On my visit, I asked my tour guide about their favorite classes and extracurriculars, and they shared tips on how to adjust to college life. They even introduced me to a friend, which helped me feel more at ease. If you have the chance, reach out to your admission counselor to see if there is availability to sit in on a class or check out an event. That’s how you’ll get the real feel of life here at DU.
In the end, my campus tour showed me that DU was where I wanted to be. Hopefully, these tips will help you make the most of your visit, too. Take your time, ask questions, and soak it all in! You’ve got this!
