Unplug and Explore DU at Kennedy Mountain Campus

Did you know the University of Denver has its own mountain campus? The Kennedy Mountain Campus (KMC), located near Red Feather Lakes in northern Colorado, is one of my favorite places to visit. Nestled in the mountains, it offers a peaceful escape from everyday life and truly has something for everyone. Whether it’s exploring scenic hiking trails, relaxing in state-of-the-art lodging, or taking part in breathtaking activities, there’s never a dull moment. And honestly, the food up there is some of the best I’ve had during my time at DU!
I remember visiting the KMC in the winter, while it was blanketed in snow. Hiking the frozen lake trail truly felt like stepping into a winter wonderland. In the fall, I had the chance to visit twice: once with the Career & Professional Development team and once with the Graduate Student Government. Each visit was unique and memorable in its own way. Watching the sky change over the mountains, whether it is the soft glow of early morning or the vibrant colors of dusk, feels truly stunning.
Visiting the Kennedy Mountain Campus has been an incredible experience that goes beyond just a getaway— it’s a chance to connect with nature, recharge, and be part of an engaging community. Whether it’s your first visit or your fourth, KMC offers unforgettable moments and a peaceful retreat from everyday life. If you ever have the opportunity to explore this hidden gem, I highly recommend it. You might just find yourself falling in love with the mountains, the people, and the magic of those sunrises and sunsets, just like I have.
